Tuesday Night Club Rides - summer only

Tuesday night rides for 2019 will start in the same location (Casa Paolo) for the flat route options and will have an additional fortnightly ride from Kingsdown Arms.

There will be a number of ride options to cater for all abilities. The main rides will be chaingangs with a steady ride option for new members or those who don’t want a high tempo chaingang ride.

Please read group riding part two and guidance below before taking part in any chaingang. The first four rides in 2018 will focus on skill development and are a good opportunity to try chaingangs for the first time.

Meet: Casa Paolo with additional fortnightly meets at Kingsdown

Start: 6:15pm (then 6:30pm when the evenings are lighter)

Ride: Chaingang, groups of 8max formed based on ability, and a steady ride as appropriate

Routes:

  1. Purton Stoke loop (as per 2017, x 4 weeks)
  2. New Malmesbury chaingang Loop (24th April onwards every week. Route details to be shared)
  3. Hilly Route (8 th May onward on a fortnightly basis but meet at Kingsdown. Flat route from Casa Paolo will also run in these weeks to cater for all)

Ride guidance

The first four rides are all about developing skills and working together as a group. We will then return to the standard routes from the 23rd of April.

The aim of this ride is to maintain a fast pace. It is the responsibility of each rider to ensure that they carry adequate spares and tools to fix punctures or a mechanical failure that they may encounter. It is also strongly recommended that you bring a mobile phone. Be aware that riders will be dropped. The groups will usually not wait for anyone who cannot maintain the pace of their group.

The ride is based on the reliability format of forming similar size groups of differing ability, each group will then set off at agreed staggered times. Please ensure you choose the correct group (this will probably come after perhaps painful experience!) as each rider within their chosen group is expected to contribute to maintaining the pace, this is usually done by “chain ganging” and “through and off”.

Start time is 18:15 during April and September, 18:30 during May, June, July & August.

Depending on numbers there are usually 2 or 3 groups based on ability.

This is a faster paced group ride and generally the groups will not wait for riders who drop off the pace so come prepared.

Please read our group riding tips and code of conduct before coming along.
